About the Role

Position Summary: The Employment Law Paralegal supports attorneys in handling workplace-related legal matters by managing case files, drafting documents, conducting legal research, and coordinating discovery. This role also involves client communication, assisting with depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and litigation procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Prepare and organize demonstrative evidence for use at trial.

  • Communicate daily with clients, attorneys, opposing counsel, and courts.

  • Gather necessary documentation from clients for litigation, discovery, and case development.

  • Conduct factual investigations, including witness interviews.

  • Act as a document liaison for clients, managing case files and electronically stored information (ESI) using platforms like Logikcull and Relativity.

  • Monitor and track critical deadlines using Compulaw and maintain a weekly task list, providing deadline reminders to supervising attorneys and associates.

  • Prepare and organize documents for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials, ensuring materials are categorized by subject and witness.

  • Perform legal research using Lexis, Westlaw, and other research tools.

  • Log billable hours using ABA and client-specific billing codes in software such as Juris Suite.

  • Prepare detailed case chronologies.

  • Log all produced documents, including those from opposing parties and third parties.

  • Review, redact, and produce large volumes of documents using RelOne.

  • Apply Bates labels to documents not already labelled. 

  • Draft discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions.

  • Draft responses and objections to discovery requests.

  • Identify key witnesses and custodians for legal holds and ESI searches.

  • Develop parameters for ESI searches.

  • Draft Protective/Confidentiality Orders.

  • Prepare Early Case Assessments and Case Management Reports.

  • Draft Joint Reports of Rule 26(f) Conferences and proposed Scheduling Orders.

  • Prepare case budgets as needed.

  • Review initial client documents and identify additional materials required for case assessment.

  • Communicate with clients and third-party vendors on discovery matters.

  • Draft various motions and proposed orders as needed.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize exhibits and compilation for Motions for Summary Judgment, as well as other pleadings.

  • Supervise filings of pleadings and motions with the courts; effectuate delivery of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to action.

  • Draft various email correspondence, letter correspondence, documentation, and revisions as instructed by attorney(s).

  • Serve as backup to legal secretary for ECF filing of pleadings and motions in State and Federal Court.

Requirements

Experience and Required Skills

  • ABA-approved paralegal studies preferred, but not required.

  • Minimum of five years’ related litigation experience and/or training.

  • Must have extensive knowledge of Texas Civil Rules of Procedure, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Evidence, and Texas Rules of Court-Local, including knowledge of docketing critical dates.

  • Prior law firm experience is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to type accurately; ability to use office equipment such as computers, copier, and scanner.

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.

  • High level of time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision.
