About the Role
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspector to join their manufacturing team in Decatur, Illinois. This position is responsible for inspecting raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards, customer specifications, and industry regulations.
The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, experience using precision measuring equipment, and a passion for maintaining high quality standards. This role plays a critical part in supporting continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring products leave the facility meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform incoming, in-process, and final product inspections.
Verify products meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
Utilize precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and CMM equipment where applicable.
Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.
Identify, document, and report non-conforming materials and products.
Work closely with production, engineering, and operations teams to resolve quality concerns.
Conduct first article inspections (FAI) as required.
Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action processes.
Ensure compliance with ISO quality standards and company procedures.
Assist with internal audits and customer quality audits.
Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
Experience using precision measuring tools.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to work overtime as production demands require.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, or similar quality management systems.
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
Previous experience in metal fabrication, machining, automotive, aerospace, or industrial manufacturing.
