About the Role

Job Summary


Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspector to join their manufacturing team in Decatur, Illinois. This position is responsible for inspecting raw materials, in-process components, and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards, customer specifications, and industry regulations.


The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, experience using precision measuring equipment, and a passion for maintaining high quality standards. This role plays a critical part in supporting continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring products leave the facility meeting or exceeding customer expectations.


Key Responsibilities


  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final product inspections.

  • Verify products meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

  • Utilize precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and CMM equipment where applicable.

  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.

  • Identify, document, and report non-conforming materials and products.

  • Work closely with production, engineering, and operations teams to resolve quality concerns.

  • Conduct first article inspections (FAI) as required.

  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action processes.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO quality standards and company procedures.

  • Assist with internal audits and customer quality audits.

  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Requirements

Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.

  • Experience using precision measuring tools.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to work overtime as production demands require.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, or similar quality management systems.

  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

  • Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).

  • Previous experience in metal fabrication, machining, automotive, aerospace, or industrial manufacturing.
